Mercury Removal in Natural Gas and Produced Water
The MyCelx Mer-sep is the Only Mercury Removal Technology that coalesces and separates mercury from gas and liquid streams. It utilizes the principle of gold mercury amalgamation and separation facilitated by capillary action. The composite element is designed to remove colloidal and elemental mercury. The dual-purpose element for gaseous streams separates liquid from gas and it also separates mercury from gas. The Mer-sep element for liquid streams is configured for sequential removal of colloidal, metallic and ionic mercury.
In gas streams, the multiple round elements are staged within standard coalescer vessels and each element processes about 10 to 30MMSCFD of gas – depending on the stream feed or the size of the Mer-sep elements. The higher the concentration of Hg, the better the Mer-sep element amalgamates and capillaries mercury.
For aqueous streams, the Mer-sep elements are staged post-MyCelx hydrocarbon polisher to reduce the interference of organics with our patented Electroless Mercury Reduction process. The technology is engineered to fit within conventional coalescer vessels or in one of our stand alone Mercury Treatment Systems (MTS).
In summer 2010, our second generation Mer-sep element will be released to the market. This Mer-sep element has been engineered to be even more efficient than the first. The normal run time for the Mer-sep elements is one to two (1 to 2) years. However, in heavy hydrocarbon loading o worst-case conditions, they may run for only 6 months. The Mer-sep element is an environmentally green technology that does not have the same hazardous waste issues of absorbent and/or media-based mercury removal units (MRUs).
